The 4th of July brought with it more cold and rain but also some visitors! Cousin Denise, Mike, and all 4 of their kiddos – Jacob, Paige, Lucy, and Josie came to town! Miraculously, Josh managed to get the day off so we decided to start things off by going down to Carnation to watch the parade. I carried Sky in the ERGO carrier for about 2 hours – it was so comfortable and he snoozed most of the time! I love going to Carnation because you just feel like you know everyone. It’s really the closest you can get to a small town shindig these days. The only thing that was missing from the festivities was the sun…it wasn’t even warm – maybe about 57-60 degrees? Booo.
After the parade, we headed up to mom and dad’s for a BBQ! Good food – burgers, hot dogs, my FAVORITE potato salad, fruit salad, baked beans, and some pretty amazing cupcakes (you can’t tell from the photo but they are red and white cake layers…so festive!) After dinner, everyone made the trek out to Sultan to watch fireworks in the cul-de-sac. It was pyro-mania as usual…it’s really something that is hard to describe in writing. It’s kind of what I would imagine a war zone would be like? Sky slept soundly in his crib (almost) the entire time. I think he woke up 2 times screaming….one of those times it was because he was super hungry. It was a very long but fun day. We were wiped and didn’t even make it to the end of the fireworks in the cul-de-sac – I think they went until almost midnight!
Monday brought the promise of sun (according to Mr. Weatherman) but it was rainy and cold AGAIN. Josh and I met Malia and Schuyler for a hike up Wallace Falls. Josh carried Sky in the hiking pack (thanks Jody!) and he did great. We made it to the lower falls and I could already tell that was as far as Sky and I could go. Thankfully, we didn’t push it and made our way back down the mountain. We spent the rest of the day at home WIPED OUT. Sky ate and slept over and over for the rest of the day and we pretty much did the same.
Tuesday was the beginning of something wonderful….SUN. It marked the first in a long stretch of very sunny HOT days….it was SOOOOO nice! We got an early start and headed to Seattle with Mike, Denise, and the kids to visit Pike Place Market and the waterfront. Even though it was a Tuesday it was still very busy! We had a great time walking around the market and eating fish and chips by the water. Unfortunately, Sky had different plans and really wasn’t a happy camper so we ducked out early and headed home. Sometimes you just need a baby to tell you when you’ve had enough for one weekend!
