This weekend I discovered Pinterest.com. I had been hearing a lot about it through various blogs but everytime I went to the site, I felt rushed and didn't have time to figure it out. So, I saved it as one of those "i'll do it later" things. Well, I finally took the time to mess with it and I'm so glad I did!
It's basically a "virtual bulletin board" where you "pin" all the wonderful things you find on the web. You can have multiple "boards" {one for home decorating, one for recipes, one for kid stuff, etc} and you can pin any picture from the web along with a description and tags. The entry will retain the original link too, so you can always remember where you found that picture! It's also great if you are working on a decorating project or event and want to save images from all over the web and send it to someone {for example, if you are planning a wedding and trying to decide on bridesmaid attire, you could make a "board" and send it to all your girls!}. You can also see what other people are "pinning" and you can "like" it, or you can "repin" it to your own board. It's a great way to find new inspiration and blogs! Others can also opt to "follow" you, so they will always see your activity. Some of my most FAVORITE bloggers FOLLOW ME. Isn't that so cool? Maybe it's just a nice thing they do...I follow them...they follow me back. But it still makes me warm and fuzzy to be close to writers and design peeps you admire, and have them like or re-pin an image YOU discovered. Don't worry, I only have 7 followers so it's not really that big of a deal...
Before, I had folders and folders and emails sent to myself of saved links - cool pictures, products, or sites that I don't necessarily need to look at all the time, but that I want to make sure I save somewhere in case I ever need it. I also had TONS of decorating photos and links to cool craft projects and recipes. The thought of having all of these in one place, displayed visually, and accessible from anywhere...kind of made me a little excited, just a little. :)
Here is a "before" of what my links looked like:
Remember when Etsy was brand new, and not many people knew about it? But then, one by one....people found out....and loved it....and then it spread like wild fire? Well, that's how I predict Pinterest will be. The team that runs it is small, the servers are slow and it's still kind of buggy but i'm sure it will get better/faster as it grows in popularity.
Click HERE if you want to view my boards or follow me. My stuff is still very much a work in progress!
