In case you missed my post last week, I’ve been high on craigslist lately. It all started with finding a pair of matching dresser/nightstands for our bedroom. Two other pieces that I’m constantly on the look out for? A dresser for our bedroom {still searching} and a twin headboard and footboard for the day when we move the twin bed out of our guestroom and it becomes a big boy bed for Sky. I’ve always been a fan of Jenny Lind style beds so imagine my excitement when I found this little gem:
This bed has a history. It belonged to the 70-something year old brother of the woman I bought it from. It was most likely manufactured during the great depression in the 1920’s or 1930’s. The clue being that the side rails connect by the use of steel hooks that slide into a slot in the headboard {you can see it above since I accidentally photographed the backside each piece!}. It does need quite a bit of love but for only $15 and literally minutes from my office, I thought it was a complete steal, especially since this same bed brand new retails for $499 at Land of Nod. Jenny Lind isn’t really a brand or manufacturer, she was actually an opera singer who preferred spool beds and somehow this style of furniture got her name. I should let you know that I AM aware that if these beds aren’t done right, they can border on something you’d see in an insane asylum. In the article linked above, it even says the beds were used in prisons in the olden days! Eeek! The dark colored frames actually creep me out a little so I want to make sure this bed gets a cheery coat of light color and doesn’t resemble anything even remotely depressing.
Jenny Lind style CRIBS all over blogs and decorating sites. They are super popular and rightfully so, they look adorable in any nursery. But, the beds are catching on as well and make the perfect mix of old and new, especially when they are given new life with paint or modern bedding. Here are just a few of my favorite Jenny Lind makeovers:

There are so many fun colors and options! Now, time to pine over paint colors…

I love dahlias. This time of year, I’m especially reminded just how wonderful these flowers really are. They come in every size, shape, and color imaginable, making them perfect for almost all parties, weddings, or events. There’s nothing better than a giant dinner plate dahlia that can fill an entire vase with just a single stem.
Hope you all have a beautiful Monday!

First things first: Happy 28th birthday to my {younger than me} hubby Josh! I love you.
It’s been a while since I posted some phone pictures, so I thought I would do that today and link up with InstaFriday over at life rearranged. Lots of people use instagram so I think that’s where the name came from, but really, it’s about sharing pictures from the week taken only with a cell phone. In my case, this is a few weeks worth, oops! I’d like to call special attention to the last picture in the 3rd row; Josh trying on a very stylish and amazing sweater at the goodwill. I’m still bummed he didn’t get it. It was quite special. Happy Friday everyone!

I don’t know about you, but it takes me FOREVER to find stuff on Craigslist. It’s kind of hit or miss. Do you ever look at the craigslist adds in other states just to see what they have? I do. And of course, I find something dreamy and then mope that it’s all the way in Texas. I need to stop that. Eventually though, months and months of searching will usually result in stumbling upon something worth while. It takes daily searching and knowing what you want, but it’s there….hidden between all of those annoying furniture ads and people who list their trash as “antique”. This is my long winded way of saying that I’ve been looking for nightstands on craigslist for….maybe a year? At first, I was just looking casually but for the past 3 months-ish, I’ve been checking every day….it’s like hunting your prey, very serious.
Look what I found! A matching pair of mid-century modern dressers in perfect condition! I desperately wanted dressers so we would have more storage and they had to be matching, I almost couldn’t believe it. So perfect.
Solid wood, dovetail construction….it’s completely magical.
On a similar note, I also scored some CLOTHES at the Goodwill. I’ve never really had a lot of time to look at clothes there, usually because I have an impatient baby with me. But this time, it was just me and Josh and I was able to look at stuff and try it on (over the clothes I was wearing of course). I look for well known brands, high quality, and low wear at the goodwill. I only buy it if it looks new. I scored an H&M top (I know, I know, they are cheap to begin with) and some designer jeans and some VERY VINTAGE and VERY AWESOME pants for Sky. He’ll probably hate me when I put them on him but they were too adorable to pass up at only $1.99. They are super soft! Welcome to the brady bunch!
Have you had any good Cragislist or thrift store finds lately?

Here are a few million more snapshots of our trip to the ocean a few weeks ago. There are so many cute ones of Sky it’s hard to narrow it down! I hope I don’t scare you away forever with this massive photo dump. eek.
Have you ever been to Bills Tavern and Brewhouse in Cannon Beach? They make their own ROOT BEER. It’s to die for.
My lovely grandma was the oldest person to ride the carousel that day….89 years young.

Last weekend, while Josh and I were still on vacation, we had a lazy Saturday at home {rare!} and when Sky woke up from his nap, we ventured into the hills to go for a little hike. The one advantage to living where we do is that we are close to the mountains and it’s a quick drive to many different hikes and trails. This time, we decided to take it easy and stroll along the Iron Goat Trail. It’s a nice level hike and good for kids – plus there are old abandoned tunnels and great views of the lower cascade foothills. After the hike, we had a nice sunny dinner at the Alpen drive in. Milkshakes, burgers, fries, and chicken strips for Sky and I. This boy LOVES his milkshakes. I think he might have my sweet tooth.

Before you look at any of the links shown in the awesome pictures above, I triple dog dare you to watch this video and NOT cry. This guy planned a surprise wedding for his bride a year in advance. Then, he proposed on the day of the wedding and they were married only hours later – she had no idea! Ugh, it’s so dang cute.
Now, onward to some of my favorite finds over the past week or 2.
1. I’m in love with this entire house, but especially the nursery and boys room – it’s perfect.
2. Who knew making homemade ice cream could be so easy? I can’t wait to try this!
3. A continuation of my love for yellow stripes…this time, it’s a baby shower!
4. These wood coasters look like a fun project, love the wrapping too!
5. I was going to write about my love for ombre, but design*sponge did it better. A few more ombre related posts here, here, here, and here.
6. I’ve never been a big fan of mobiles…but now I am: DIY roundup of 25 mobiles you can make.
7. Check out this AMAZING dollhouse.
8. These vintage matchbook printables are pretty snazzy.
Happy Friday everyone!

For 4 days and 3 nights last week, we went to Seaside, Oregon. We split our time between Seaside and Cannon Beach, ate tons of food, drove A LOT, and hung out with our families. My parents, grandma, and in-laws all came with us….party down! The weather was depressing when we arrived, frigid and cloudy. As the days progressed, it got a little warmer and a little sunnier….still not August weather but then again, I don’t think any of our weather this entire year could be classified as “august weather”. I still haven’t worn a swimsuit this year and I don’t foresee it in my future. Rather than get all wordy, I thought I would share some of the highlights with you in the form of pictures, since they are pretty darn cute and I have about a million (this post will only cover the first half). The best part was watching Sky see the ocean for the first time and the look of amazement on his face at the sand, the waves, all of it. So awesome.
Sky got a special bucket of new toys just for the trip…it was a hit! This was also the first time we drove with his car seat facing forward, he will be 2 in December {but he’s only 24 pounds}. He was pretty excited for a new view!
We stopped at the Astoria Column on the way for a snack – I hadn’t been since I was a kid!
Walking down to the ocean for the very first time….that’s a boomerang in Josh’s pocket in case you are wondering.
This is quite possibly the funniest picture EVER taken of Sky. Josh thinks he looks like a 45 year old dude in this photo.
Hmm, a mysterious baby growing out of my head?!
Sky fell asleep on the swings….it was the most adorable thing ever.
Ok, that’s probably enough for today….stay tuned for part 2 next week when the sun finally comes out!
