This picture {taken by Josh}, perfectly sums up Sky at 2 years, 3 months old.
50% of the time he’s a mischievous stinker and the other 50% of the time, he’s too cute for words.
Here are some royal highlights of as late:
- There is a slight obsession with Barkley going on {the dog from Sesame Street who is no longer on, so instead of watching regular TV, we are watching YouTube videos from the 80’s, like this one.} This also leads us to other Sesame Street videos from my era, the making of crayons and postage stamps – oh, how I loved those.
- Speaking of screen time, Sky has started to become adamant and demanding about watching certain videos, TV shows, or asking to watch things on my phone. We used to have a record player, but it broke. I’m thinking we need to get a new one just to bring some good distraction back, similar to what Merrilee is doing. We already have a good collection of records, thanks to Josh and his excellent taste in musicals and old time music {and my contribution of the doobie brothers}.
- The “I love you mommy!”, “I missed you mommy!”, “drive safe mommy!”, “come home soon mommy!”. Those melt my heart.
- Two words for you: SELECTIVE HEARING.
- Let’s make a fort or a “tunnel” – all day every day. I’m not gonna lie, I love a good fort. We just need to gather some better materials and objects for stability. There are some great sources for fort building here.
- “Mommy sit right THERE!”, a.k.a – I can’t be in the same room with him doing anything else other than sitting next to him, lying down, driving cars. Sometimes I feel like a hostage. Josh, on the other hand, has managed to win that battle. I must be too soft.
- Whether it’s unloading the dishwasher with a “thank you mommy” each time he hands me a dish, moving clothes to the dryer with a gentle reminder not to forget the dryer sheet, feeding lily, picking up tiny rocks or dirt off the floor and throwing it in the garbage, or “helping” me fold laundry by throwing all the clothes out and wearing the basket on his head….it’s just too cute. He’s such a good little helper.
- The talking, memory, and comprehension is through the roof – it’s so funny how much he absorbs. He REALLY is like a sponge! He even knows the names of all his monster trucks and the difference between between his Ferrari and Aston Martin Hot Wheels. To that end, I’m trying to be better about limiting my phone use while in the house {because let’s be honest, at this rate all our kids are going to want their own cell phone when they turn 4}, no more podcasts or music in the car unless it’s 100% wholesome, he needs to see us eat our vegetables, cooking food, and generally acting the way we would want him to act. If I get home from work and stuff my face with a handful of chocolate chips, how come he can’t have any?? PS – this whole “setting an example thing” has really cut into my after work pre-dinner sweets binge.
